  • Hello!

I am sitting by the kitchen counter, next to a Kilner jar filled to the brim with “clear the fridge/freezer” jam, some roasted cauliflower and sweet potatoes — all sitting out to cool before being packed away for the week, except the jam, that’s for a ThanksMas dinner party.

Seeing all the food prepped has given me a jolt of inspiration to start this first post. I recognised that the blog setup is half-assed (still finding my way around the interface) and the About page is empty (I’ll get to it eventually), but I got to start somewhere, right?

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this and about what I want to write, e.g. . .

What’s my vision for the blog? I think I’ve learned my lesson enough from past dead blogs that this is nothing but a digital record of my musing for my own consumption. The high school blogging glory days are over. Besides, do people have the attention span to read anymore?

Should it be all about food? Yes and no. Yes, food is a major part of my passion, according to my 251 and counting cookbooks. I’d love to start a (cook)book report series to challenge myself to cook out of these books and not just let them collect dust on the shelf. But no, I have a general aversion to being one dimension so I can imagine some occasional non-food related rant or a little chapter of the general life.

Anyway, as of this post, it is 48 days to go until my annual ThanksMas dinner party (53 days to Thanksgiving and 81 days to Christmas). We have 14-16 people coming and my menu is pretty much set, minus a few snack adjustments. Will post about this next.

After ThanksMas, I’ll need to start thinking about the nominees for the 2025 Christmas Cookie Box — that would be a fun post to go through my self-imposed Christmas Cookie Box rule and the shortlisted recipes.

Then, we can set goals for 2026 (how is it 87 days left in 2025?!) e.g. how many dinner parties, what are the menu themes and who to add/cull from the guest list.

Oh crap, so much for this blog not being all about food!
